Uganda Sister Parish

Special thanks
go to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Parish Council who in 2009 decided that St Rose of Lima Parish to adopt Fr. Mujule's parish as the Uganda Sister Parish and thus assist Father's pastoral ministry back home. Fr. Mujule our Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, Metropolis City, IL is grateful to God who chose him from deep in the rural parish of Bwikara area in Kibaale District, Hoima Diocese, western Uganda, East Africa to come and serve (in Aug 2006) as a Missionary International Priest in Belleville Diocese, State of Illinois, USA. Since his priestly ordination in 1978, Fr Mujule has served in several pastoral places during in Hoima Diocese -For details concerning his Uganda pastoral ministry visit this website: Fr Mujule's Pastoral-Rural Outreach mjlemc.blogspot.com

Hoima Diocese
is in western Uganda along Lake Albert, and the Diocese covers 6,663 square miles with a population of approximately 1,700,000 about half of whom are catholics (52%). There are 38 parishes served by 120 native Diocesan Priests. In July 2010, God willing, some 16 Deacons will be ordained priests - its the biggest number ever since the diocese began Dec 1965. The ratio of priest to catholics is about 1:7000. The number is high, this is due to a rapidly growing population in Uganda. Uganda is the size of State of Oregon, USA, and Uganda as of now has a population of 33,000,000 (www.newvision.co.ug/D/8/12/702385) of whom 60% are below the age of 15 years.

Fr. Mujule
did a lot of his pastoral ministry among the rural and poor people deep in rural areas of Muhorro, Mpeefu and Bwikara Sub Counties of Kibaale District, Hoima Diocese. He is grateful to the Christians of St Rose of Lima for the help given from the Cans Recycle Project and for the Uganda Sister Parish donations that help support Father Mujule's ministry back home. Most families deep, deep in rural areas are really poor and live on just 1 US $ or less per day, for a family of 10 people i.e. Dad, Mom and 8 kids: that means an annual income of about 300$ or less. Can you imagine what that means when taking care of a family: educating, feeding and clothing and health care of the family especially the kids?
